Can I plead the fifth amendment when subpoenaed?
I briefly worked at a timeshare resale company until I found that they were committing fraud. I felt morally compelled to report them to the attorney general's office, who wanted me to give a recorded statement. Before going there, I asked if they would provide me with an affidavit of immunity if I testified, and they said they would. When I got there, they refused, and issued me a subpoena to come back and testify at a later date. Even though I worked there briefly and did not commit fraud, I am concerned that the attorney general might try and implicate me with a conspiracy charge, or guilt through association. I am thinking of pleading the fifth when I return. What are the consequences and what should I do? I want to do the right thing, but I do not trust the system. Please help.
U are right not to believe in the system. Now is the time for an attorney but until then DO NOT answer ANY questions until one is present. They will try to force u to talk without an attorney but you have the right to rermain silent.
