do you have to pull the plastic strips off the tar strips on roof shingles?
I live in West Texas and have done this ....a lot of contractors say no and I believe its becasue they just dont want to take the time.so ..I know it helpes to seal and hold the shingles down better..but want others response for the sake of argument..I will still tear them off. Some say its just for shipping?
Asked contractor's same Q w/ mixed answers.
None said it was a "bad " thing to do ...just not necessary.( more to clean up?)
All agreed that they are to keep shingles from sticking during shipping.
Might not matter so much in Texas heat .
Im in NY & re-roofed my garage in cold weather
Figuring that since they are called heat tabs ,I remove the plastic strips.
Can say that the roof I did is flatter & tighter than what was done by "pro's" on rest of the house.
Could just be that I just took my time?
Going back ,the strips were paper & not the thin perforated plastic you now see which may be designed to stay in place.
Some roofing material council probably has a definitive answer, but I wo'nt be around to care.
